Mortgage Loan Forbearance Program
At SafeAmerica Credit Union, we are thinking about the safety and financial well-being of our members and their families during this unprecedented time. Amidst the disruption and uncertainty related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we are committed to helping you and your family in weathering this crisis. For that reason, we are offering a payment accommodation via a three (3) month forbearance on the mortgage loans of those members whose ability to pay has been affected by COVID-19.
During the forbearance period, the following terms will apply:
- You will not need to make any regular monthly payments. You will not be charged any penalties (e.g., late payment fees) for failing to make a payment during the forbearance period. No negative credit reporting will occur during the forbearance period.
- Interest will accrue on your loan during the forbearance period according to the terms of your loan agreement. This means that the postponement of payments during the forbearance period will result in higher total interest than if you make your payments as originally scheduled.
- All regular monthly payments and accrued interest not paid during the forbearance period will be due at the maturity date of your loan. This means that you will be required to make a balloon payment at the maturity date or make increased payments during the term of your loan in order to pay off your loan at the scheduled maturity date. You are free to make payments during the forbearance period, which will reduce the amount of the balloon payment due at the maturity date.
- At the end of the forbearance period, you will be required to resume making your regular monthly payment unless you make other arrangements with us.
